Questions to Consider

Why Choose Metal?

  • Metal is built to last: it is the longest lasting and strongest building material
  • Metal is weather resistant, especially with high-quality welds and finishes
  • Metal can be industrial and strong but it can also be elegant, classy, modern, rustic, traditional, romantic, chic, country, vintage - the possibilities are endless
  • Metal offers a variety of choices for materials: ferrous (steel/iron) or non-ferrous (aluminum, brass, copper, stainless steel, etc)
  • Metal offers an assortment of finishes to achieve the exact  look you desire
  • Metal is completely customizable: we can help you design it, we can build it, and install it!
*Here at Vigil Steel, owner/custom fabricator Dan Vigil has over eighteen years of high end ornate metal fabrication experience and can bring the project you imagine to life.

What finishes are available?

The type of finish depends on the type of metal, below are some common options.
Ferrous Metals (contain iron)
  • Bare - no finish
  • Rusted - naturally rusted, then covered with a clear paint to preserve the rusted finish and prevent further rusting
  • Primer and Paint - offers the most color options, can be used for interior or exterior projects, and is cost effective
  • Patina - a chemical aging of the metal to make it appear older (usually brown or greenish in color)
  • Faux finish - usually a mixture of paint and patina used to reach a precise look or match existing pieces
  • Powder coat - a highly durable finish, ideal for exterior projects & offered in a wide array of colors
Non-Ferrous Metals
  • Natural - no finish
  • Raw brushed - adds a slight patterning to the metal surface
  • Polished - a time & labor intensive process that produces a bright, shiny, mirror like surface
  • Powder coat - a highly durable finish, ideal for exterior projects and offered in a wide array of colors
*Vigil Steel has extensive experience finishing both ferrous (steel/iron) and non ferrous (aluminum, brass, copper, stainless steel) metals. We take pride in the quality of our finished product and work closely with our customers to ensure the result matches the expectation.

What is a good weld?

A good weld creates a moisture proof connection ALL the way around the metal. It should look consistent with no holes or gaps. There is usually a visible pattern to a good weld without it being too thick or bulky. If the welds are poor, they will rust and often break, creating an unsightly and unsafe product.

*Vigil Steel takes pride in only welding high-quality welds. Each weld is cleaned and inspected to ensure that only the best welding is incorporated into our metalwork. Welding is a very technical and precise craft, so it is imperative that a welder have the proper training and tools. Vigil Steel has all the equipment and expertise needed to weld both ferrous and nonferrous metals the right way, the first time. Owner Dan Vigil is a professional, certified welder with a 3G Limited Certification.
